Quick answer
Big Walk supports crossplay. Once the host has started the session and loaded into the world, friends can join through their platform friend list or enter the host’s current Join Code. Mac App Store players must use a Join Code because that version does not provide the friend-games list.
Join through a platform friend list
- Add the host as a friend on the platform service you are using.
- Ask the host to start the session and wait until their character is loaded into the world.
- Open the active friend-games menu in Big Walk.
- Select the host’s session.
If the session does not appear, use a Join Code instead. The friend list is a convenience, not a crossplay requirement.
Join with a Join Code
- The host can find the current code in the corner of the host menu before starting.
- After the session starts, the host can open the in-game menu and choose
Session Detailsto find it again. - The host sends the code privately to the intended players.
- Joining players enter that code in the game’s joining flow.
- If the host set a password, enter that password as well.
A new Join Code is generated each time the host starts a session. Do not assume a code from an earlier session will still work.
Crossplay and version checks
Players on different supported systems can play together. For version compatibility, compare the three-part game version shown by each player. The first two numbers must match; the third number may differ. For example, versions with the same 1.4 prefix meet the FAQ’s compatibility rule even if the final number is different.
If the session is missing
- Confirm the host is fully loaded into the world.
- Add the host as a platform friend, then check the list again.
- Switch to a Join Code, especially for the Mac App Store version.
- Check that the first two version numbers match across the group.
- Ask the host to review any connection warning in the lower-left corner.
- If joining still fails, follow Hosting, Connection, and Save Progress.
Keep the session private
The host’s session may be visible to friends and to friends of other players. Anyone who knows the Join Code can attempt to join. The official FAQ recommends setting a password when the host wants tighter control. Streamers should keep both the Join Code and password off screen.
